Postmodernism: Post America–Part One

By Dr. H. T. Spence

In recent Straightway articles we have presented the rise and power of Postmodernism and its effect upon the institutional church. As Christians of this contemporary hour, we must understand that globally we have entered into a post-era. In that this post-era is becoming the corridor leading to a one-world government and one-world religion, it is affecting every facet of human existence. As a result, we now are witnessing through President Obama the emergence of a Post-America time. If God does not alter our present course in history, what can we expect to witness in these coming months and years for our country?

Biblical Concepts of the End Time

Whereas the first coming of Christ began the last days or (as in I Peter 1:20) the last times, I Timothy 4:1 and Jude 18 speak of the latter times of these last days in which ungodly scoffers will arise. Furthermore, I Peter 1:5 speaks of the last time of the latter times of the last days in which our eternal inheritance will be revealed. Similarly, there is a final last day of the latter days of the last days where Christ will raise the dead and judge the world (John 6:39-40, 44, 54; 11:24; 12:48).

The apostle John in his first epistle uses the phrase the last time:

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time (2:18).

The Greek understanding of time here is hour (hora). More than any other Gospel writer, John the Beloved spoke of the hour. In John 2:4, he recorded Christ’s familiar statement, “Mine hour is not yet come.” This term hour refers to a period or season of time. This term is mentioned in John 4:21; 7:30; 8:20; 12:23, 27; 13:1; 16:21; 17:1.

The reference to the last hour in I John 2:18 refers to the final season of time found in the time frame between Christ’s first and second comings. This final season is prophesied to reveal the powers of darkness at their greatest height; these are the “perilous times” mentioned in II Timothy 3:1. The first coming of Christ was the evidence of the arrival of the “last days” (Acts 2:16-18), and the coming of many antichrists proved that it was “the last hour” (I John 2:18). A last desperate stand on the part of Christ’s enemies was expected to come to pass before the consummation. This began to take place at the last part of the first century. The hour of final opposition to Christ was crucial then, but it is more so now.

Global Concepts of the End Time

In recent decades certain terms have been popularized in the earth strongly suggesting how we have been brought to the end of the last days, approaching the crisis hour. They are the terms World, New, and Change.

In the days of the New Testament the term world (Gr., oikoumene, the inhabited world) referred primarily to Western Civilization, which by the end of the New Testament period included all of the Roman Empire. However, it is a term that has enlarged itself with the passing of time. Today it is a term that defines every part of the planet Earth. In that it now encompasses all of the inhabited physical world, its bounds can go no farther. Matthew 24:14 states, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” This is where we are today: the oikoumene world is literally complete. No more of the world needs to be found. Until the twentieth century, there had never been a World War. Now, two world wars have taken place, to say nothing of the many nations coming together to fight in other contexts such as the Gulf War of 1990-1991.

A second popularized term is new, or neos in the Greek. This term means “newness in time,” a newness historically never known. This has become a trendy, in vogue term. Since the latter part of the 1970s, the expression new age has now become a universal expression. The cry for a new age of global government and global philosophy is now a powerful manipulator of thought for all nations. The neos prefix also became a popular way of expressing the mutating new views of Christianity in the past century: Neo-Orthodoxy, Neo-Morality, Neo-Evangelicalism, and Neo-Pentecostalism. Neo-Pentecostalism paved the way for the Charismatic movement’s new view of Pentecost and the gifts of the Spirit.

A final term of powerful influence today has been the word change. This word has become the watchword now, a cutting-edge term politically and religiously. However, much of this so-called change is actually returning us to the old Marxism, Socialism, and Communism.

The Rise of “Post–”

To accommodate the popular consciousness of the terms world, new, and change, the prefix post- is now necessary to define the molding of modern thought. The Latin word post means “after in time; later, behind.” This prefix has given us such words as postscript, postmortem, postgraduate, postpartum, postpone, postoperative, and posthumous.

This use of post- stepped forward in the 1800s to identify an era, philosophy, or movement after a season of time. A movement in the 1800s called Post-Impressionism believed that realism in painting should be done away with, that art must be completely self-expression, and that art must be untrammeled by rules, tradition, or reality. Cubism and Expressionism became later developments out of the Post-Impressionist movement.

In light of this meaning, we have now come in history to a post-era. This new post-era suggests that something has passed in time and something else is now appearing. This new era we are entering is one where global philosophies are all looking to establish a one-world government and religion.

Post America

It has been President Barack Hussein Obama’s administration that has brought to the forefront the term Post America or a Post-American World. Before defining this term and giving its characteristics, we must preface our words with the understanding of Scripture for this hour in which we live.

First Corinthians 2:8 speaks of “the princes of this world (or age).”

Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

These princes are men and women who seem to be the controlling factors of a certain age or generation. When the concept of the inhabited world was smaller, there were princes of the age for that geographical segment of the world. But as the world enlarged in understanding (the oikoumene world), the princes or “chief rulers” (Gr., archon) seemed to control the whole world system of a generation.

Psalm 2 depicts several distinct peoples of any given generation: the nations (heathen), the people, the kings and the rulers. Ultimately they are all brought together to accomplish the breaking asunder (completely) of the bands and casting away of the cords of the Lord and His anointed. Such a union of these four groups happened at the time of Christ’s first coming. We see the prophetic history of this union in the Book of Acts:

The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together. For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done (see 4:25-28).

We must see clearly in this event of history that God was in control of it all. Prophecy is the proof that God knows ahead of time, and all is in His hand to work out.

According to Hebrews 1:2 [God] “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” The term worlds is the Greek word ages. God has already made and appointed the ages of history. We are witnessing the realization of Psalm 2 happening again on the eve of the Second Coming.

Today we have gone beyond the union of Psalm 2:2. This was fulfilled (according to Acts 4) in the days of Christ Jesus and His crucifixion. We now witness their cry in verse 3, “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” These words are the bold cry now by our leaders; they want to abolish anything that is identified with God, including His laws, His morals, and His restraints. We now have a President of America that has openly appointed laws diametrically opposed to God and His Word. He truly desires to bring about a Post America. This is an America that is after the America that we know.

God honored this nation with His presence, because we honored Him and His Word. He brought us the glory as the greatest nation on earth. God’s Word declares, “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” We also read, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Our nation was not merely righteous in its beginning; as a nation it chose for its God, Jehovah. Godly preachers blessed this land with their preaching of God’s Word, and they helped forge this country through biblical principles.

However, a Post America is now the intelligent design of our nation’s leaders. They seek the absolute destruction of the former America—its beliefs, its morals, its path, its liberties. They seek the formation of a new America that has no resemblance to the former America. Secret movements and societies for many decades have slowly but deliberately sought this demolition. We have gone from a Republic nation, through a Democratic nation, unto a Socialistic nation.

As Presidents of the past had their personal reading material upon which they fed and trained their minds and hearts, so has Mr. Obama. Among his readings has been the book The Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria. Zakaria begins with the premise that America’s leadership in the world is waning. As an internationalist, he is aligned with those quietly working to ease the world’s citizenry into embracing one-world government policies.

Whether secretly or openly, this global movement involves members from both political parties. Mr. Obama is merely the front man here in the United States for the people who are really manipulating the world’s governments. A cabal of international industrialists and bankers has been a powerful influence behind the scene of the twentieth-century world stage. Their presence can be dated back to when President Woodrow Wilson was influenced to allow the establishment of the Federal Reserve in 1913. Interestingly, there is nothing federal about the Federal Reserve; it is privately owned. Even the President is told whom he will appoint as the Fed’s chairman and regional governors. These people are intent on utilizing the United Nations as the world’s governing body for one-world government.

The United Nations is poised to continue issuing mandates for national governments to follow through what is called the Millennium Project, established in 1996. This Project is broken into several subcomponents. The goal of the project is to equalize and combine all the world’s governments and countries into a one-world government. Under the Global Poverty Act of 2007 as introduced by then Senator Barack Obama, the USA and all other developed countries would give a much larger portion of their resources (minerals, cash, food, land, etc.) to the developing countries. There will be no distinction of wealth between the USA and another country such as Zimbabwe, or any developed and underdeveloped country. All nations’ wealth will be equal on a per-person basis.

This global redistribution of wealth will be accomplished partially through the Cap and Trade Bill. This bill is the largest international tax the world has ever seen. Most Americans do not realize that the ideas of this bill are being imposed globally by all governments. Although China and India are presently balking, time will prove them yielding.

International law has already been passed through the United Nations to end private ownership of all weapons globally. The Millennium Project is calling for all countries to actively participate in the World Court. Currently the USA is a member only on cases relating to international trade. Earlier this spring the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton quietly announced that the USA is now willing to join the criminal division of the World Court. When we give the World Court that power, it will mean they can override the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Obama this year has granted INTERPOL (the International Criminal Police Organization) a greater authority in our country than the FBI.

The same people controlling the world’s governments have also developed Agenda 21. This is another United Nations mandate calling for the world’s population to be sustained at 500 million. This mandate will necessitate the “depopulation” of much of the world’s current inhabitants. Additionally, Obama has signed the United States onto the “Convention on the Rights of the Child.” This UN mandate usurps parental authority. It states that any child may appeal before a court concerning any disciplinary action taken by his parents. It grants to the child the right to choose his own religion, to have the right to not work, and basically anything else he feels is in his own “best interest.”

We may wonder why the media do not report on this. It stands to reason they are part of the end time. When David Rockefeller spoke at the Bilderberg Conference (June 6-9, 1991) in Baden-Baden, Germany, he openly discussed the plan for the global takeover and thanked the media for their silence:

It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government.

David Rockefeller is a mogul of businesses such as Standard Oil and Chase Manhattan Bank; he is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations, which seems to be one of the main headquarters pursuing a world government. In 2002, Random House published David Rockefeller: Memoirs. Surprisingly, on page 405 of the paperback edition, he boldly acknowledges what they are doing:

For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents such as my encounter with Castro to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interest of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure—one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.

David Rockefeller’s cousin is Senator John (Jay) Rockefeller, D-WV, who introduced a bill that would authorize the federal government to shut down the Internet in the event of a national emergency. Shutting down the whole Internet would stop the citizens of the world from staying abreast of developing events.

Conclusion

Yes, dear reader, the former America is gone, and sad to say it is gone for good. There will be no return. We are now entering a Post America. Our founding fathers created a Republic. This is different from a Democracy where a simple majority can squash the rest, where a fanatical majority can deprive the individual of his rights, his life, and his property. The philosopher Plato warned that democracy would eventually end in dictatorship. The very essence of democracy rests in the absolute sovereignty of the majority. If a certain party becomes a dominant power in the Senate, the Congress, and the White House, and these control the Federal judges appointed, the check-and-balance intended by our founding fathers dissipates. This is where we are today, and our leaders are committed to destroying the old America and bringing us into a Post America.

Another great enemy that is rising with accelerated power in Post America is the elimination of “freedom of speech” and “freedom of the press.” The weapon to be used against these freedoms will be the volatile “Hate Crimes Bill” that is being passed by different states’ legislation and certainly will step forward under Federal power. It is evident now by its passage in several states that such a bill is primarily written to suppress the Christian faith. For years we have preached that it was coming . . . now it is here. This bill will affect both what can be said publicly and what can be said in churches by pastors. May God give us wisdom in these days when it is against the law to say anything against sodomy, the Muslims, or any belief other than Christianity. Yes, our “land of the free and home of the brave” has now entered the raw realism of controlled socialism and political correctness.

The preparation for a Post America has been in place for over fifty years. May God prepare us for the massive transition that is imminently in our wake as a nation. The old, beloved America is gone; a Post America now rises with aggressive force and power. May God have mercy upon us!
