Postmodernism: Post America–Part Two

As we continue the burden of “Post America,” in the light of what President Obama desires for this country, it is evident that we are headed towards the restructuring of an America literally antithetical to what providence allowed to be born some three hundred years ago.

Although there is continued debate of whether America was either a Christian nation or a God-fearing nation at its birth, our early history makes clear that the standard of reference was the Bible. Christian theism teaches that man is held accountable to his Creator. In 1644, Samuel Rutherford wrote Lex Rex (The Law is King), challenging the fundamental principle of the divine right of kings, the 17th century political government in Europe. Rutherford’s basic premise of government and law was the Bible; he believed all men are under the Law. Though Rutherford died before his concepts were implemented, they surfaced later in the Declaration of Independence. It was through the influence of John Witherspoon and John Locke that Rutherford’s declarations influenced our sacred documents. Witherspoon, a Presbyterian minister who was educated at Edinburgh University, brought the Lex Rex influence into the sacred documents. This was the hope. Even through the influence of William Blackstone (a lecturer of law at Oxford) and the Judeao-Christian principles, we saw God’s principles of righteousness become the foundation of this nation.

During these founding days, nonetheless, a great crisis took place in regard to the Bible in our country. The regular supply of printed Bibles from England was suddenly cut off. In 1777, Patrick Allison, Chaplain of Congress, placed before that body a petition praying for immediate relief. Soon 20,000 Bibles were shipped from Holland and Scotland into the different parts of the United States. When in 1780 the crisis arose again, Robert Aitken, a bookseller and publisher of the Pennsylvania Magazine, saw the need and began publishing Bibles. The Bible of the Revolution, now one of the world’s rarest books, was the first American printed Bible. In contrast to the respect it had in our nation’s founding days, now the Bible is outlawed in schools and places of government.

Symbols of Our National Faith

Our nation’s tangible memory of the presence of God in the very fabric of America is fast fading away. A few observations would be honorable to mention.

Every session of the House and Senate begins with prayer by their own chaplains. There is a room in the Capitol, just off the Rotunda, for private prayer by Congressmen, not open to the public. This room has a stained-glass window showing George Washington kneeling in prayer. Behind him are etched the words from Psalm 16:1, “Preserve me, O God, for in thee do I put my trust.” Inside the Rotunda is a picture of the Pilgrims about to embark from Holland on the sister ship of the Mayflower, the Speedwell. William Brewster has open on his lap the Bible, and very clear are the words, “The New Testament According to Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.” On the sail is the motto of the Pilgrims, “In God We Trust, God With Us.”

The phrase “In God We Trust” is opposite the President of the Senate, who is the Vice President of the United States. The same phrase is largely inscribed in marble behind the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Above the head of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court are the Ten Commandments with the great American eagle protecting them. The Crier who opens each session closes with the words, “God save the United States and the Honorable Court.”

Engraved on the metal cap on the top of the Washington Monument are the words “Praise Be to God.” Lining the walls of the stairwell are such biblical phrases as “Search the Scriptures,” “Holiness to the Lord,” “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” One of the numerous quotations from Scripture found within the walls of the Library of Congress is, “What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly and love mercy and walk humbly with thy God.”

At the Lincoln Memorial, inscribed on the walls are these words: “That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” At the opposite end, on the north wall, Lincoln’s second inaugural address alludes to God, the Bible, Providence, the Almighty, and Divine Attributes. It then continues: “As was said three thousand years ago, so it still must be said, the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.” At the Jefferson Memorial, on the south banks of Washington, at the Tidal Basin, are the words of Thomas Jefferson:

God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.

Our nation is living in a myth now because of the ripping out of the very fabric of Scripture from our nation. The apostle Paul warned, “And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” The word for fables here in the Greek is myths. God truly is giving us over to a mythological president, with his overt tones and clichés of anti-Bible rhetoric: “I don’t care what Christianity has said”; “Our view has been evolution”; “One can have morality without religion”; “Whatever is legal is moral”; “Morality cannot be legislated”; “A fetus is not human”; “The Bible should have no voice in Government.” We are being told that the role of men and women is interchangeable, that pornography is a harmless adult pleasure, that homosexuality is an alternative lifestyle to be legally proclaimed and accepted.

“Obamination”

In his journeys to Britain, France, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Iraq in the early part of his administration, President Obama made it clear that the United States of America will no longer be the world’s policeman. He made his rounds to apologize for American history, both distant and recent; bowing before the unelected king of Saudi Arabia; announcing that he will slash America’s nuclear arsenal and scrap much of our missile defense programs; seeking to dismantle the US Navy (leaving Japan to face North Korea and China alone); telling the Czechs, Poles and their fellow former Soviet colonies, “Don’t worry, be happy,” as he leaves them to Moscow’s tender mercies; humiliating Iraq’s leaders while hobnobbing with Iran’s; preparing for an open confrontation with Israel; and thanking Islam for its great contribution to American history.

He has made it clear to the world’s aggressors that America will not be confronting them in the foreseeable future. All of this has become music to the ears of the American Left and their friends in Europe. Obama’s supporters, like billionaire George Soros, couldn’t be more excited at the self-induced demise of the American superpower. It is true, as the media declare, that America’s superpower status is being downgraded as rapidly as its economy.

Sad to say, America has been forced to abandon its honorable role as the protector of the free world. Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that the United States would only shoot down North Korean missiles that targeted our territories. On CNN he declared to the world that America has abrogated its strategic commitment to Japan’s defense. Obama has even rejected India, opening that country to vulnerable attacks from China and Pakistan. Although Obama received enthusiastic applause from his audience in Prague when he announced his intention to destroy the US’s nuclear arsenal, drastically scale back its missile defense programs, and forge a new alliance with Russia, his words were a grief to the ears of the leaders of former Soviet satellites threatened by Russia. The Czech, Polish, Georgian, and Ukrainian governments were quick to recognize that Obama’s strong desire to give favor to the Kremlin and weaken his own country will place them in a precarious situation.

Of course, there is also Israel. In a bid to appease the Arabs and Iran, Obama is asserting that Israel must forward an immediate establishment of a Palestinian state. He supports the so-called Saudi Peace Plan, which requires Israel to commit national suicide in exchange for an assumed “peace” with the Arab world. Obama also continues increasingly frantic appeals for Iran to “engage” his administration hoping to abort the United State’s alliance with Israel. On CNN even Vice President Joseph Biden made their policy explicitly clear that an Israeli strike that prevents Iran from becoming a nuclear power is less acceptable than a nuclear-armed Iran.

It is mournfully clear that America’s present leadership has betrayed its legacy, its history, its democratic allies, and itself! The America of the past is no more; we are truly being cast into a Post-American era. India cannot easily defeat nuclear-armed Pakistan; Japan today cannot face North Korea (a Chinese proxy); Russia’s invasion of Georgia over a year ago showed clearly that the former republics and satellites of Russia by themselves have no way of escaping Moscow’s grip. And apart from the great Sovereign God, dear Israel stands alone today.

Our newly inaugurated Post-American leadership has made clear that America’s former friends are left to great risk. Because other countries sympathetic to Israel in the past will back off in the light of America’s open rejection of Israel, Israel may now move to develop active strategic alliances with Japan, Iraq, Poland, and the Czech Republic, and perhaps even expand its alliance with India.

The Changing of History

One of the typical symptoms of the present “Obamination” is found in the publishing of new textbooks for our schools. This new global post-era seeks to either rewrite or eradicate large sections of our history. This “rewriting of history” has occupied the media for years throughout their myriad documentaries. One example is Walt Disney Pictures’ animated story of Pocahontas. In this production the Indian princess Pocahontas is presented as an animist with no concept of the true God in her life. They readily acknowledged their fictional presentation as contrasting the story on the Rotunda of the nation’s Capitol depicting her being water baptized in the name of the Trinity. Also omitted was Pocahontas’ visit to England, where her knowledge of the Bible and her deep piety made a spiritual impact upon Queen Elizabeth I. Now our country boldly moves to obliterate the very memory of our early history.

Recently the Chief Academic Officer for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction proposed that the state’s U.S. History textbooks should begin only at 1877 after Reconstruction. She argues more recent history is what children see on television. These proposed changes would silence much concerning the founding of our country, the influences of Christianity and the Bible, the godly character of our founding fathers, the American Revolution, the birth of our nation, the Great Awakenings, and the entire history of the Civil War. The understanding that religious freedom was a main burden in the birth of this country as well as the dominance of the Bible in our country’s development would be ignored. It is evident this move will become a precedent for the rest of the country. The greater emphasis in the history textbooks will now be from a global perspective and our relationship as a nation to the rest of the countries of the world. The day is fast approaching when any truth taught will be what the State declares to be the truth. The words terrorist, cultist, and fanatic will only be used in the context of religious separatists. More and more the media aid the State in the stigmatization of religion as evil; such secularists seek to remove religion from the American public life.

Both “freedom of speech” and “freedom of the press” will soon be a thing of the past. The next step after rewriting the textbooks and silencing the acknowledgment of true history will be censorship of all books in public and state libraries not within the bounds of political correctness. The day could come when all books outside the State’s presupposition will be confiscated and destroyed.

The past must be destroyed at any cost, either by rewriting or omission; this has already happened in many parts of the world. Considered preposterous twenty years ago, now the climate is ripe for such aggressive moves to be made. Our present Administration is swiftly taking advantage of this climate of liberal, God-hating aggression for these changes to take place. Only our Heavenly Father can stop it or slow it down.

God’s Plan for the Resolve of Eschatology

This new, strange Post America has become strategic madness. Our violence and crimes have escalated; abortions are unrestrained; sodomy is now controlling the White House, the Congress, the Senate, the clothes and home designers, the media, and vying for control of education and the music industry. Obama is emasculating the country of America. It is evident that God has given us over to a foolish shepherd who will conform America to the subjection of the many paramours of nations who have longed to rape, molest, and mock the USA. We will go the way of all other nations!

Theologically, America has been honored with deeper insight into the great workings of the Atonement of Christ, more than any other country, including England. For this very reason, our fall will be the most humiliating, the most shameful, the most degrading of all nations of history, including Israel. Jeremiah 2:11 states, “Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.”

Our nation’s President has now openly mocked our Saviour with words that should have brought fire down from heaven. He is the only President that has not attended church since his inauguration. Yet, we must remember that his former pastor in Chicago was a blasphemous enemy of America and all the good it stood for. Obama has not grown up in America; therefore, he neither fully knows nor appreciates its history. He took an oath to defend the Constitution, and yet he is determined to dismantle it piece by piece. We are now told that the Muslims were a part of our forefathers and that this country was built by them rather than Christianity. We have changed our God to gods of the world. Our glory, which rose to global proportion, has no profit anymore.

What sobering words we read in Hosea 4:6-11:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame. They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings. For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD. Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

Conclusion

Post America! What will it become after its global assimilation? Will we be divided and sold to the highest bidder? Will there come another civil war when it seems no one will do anything about the dissolution and dismantling of this nation? Will a sovereign God permit a final surge of righteousness to simply delay for a moment its inevitable destruction? We have sown to the wind, and our children and grandchildren will reap the whirlwind! We must truly acknowledge that we deserve this little boy who has risen to become the global poster-child for the one-world government. Whatever providence affords for the future, the damage has already been done; the next leader will simply build upon the rubble.

Yes, we are in the final hour of the last days of the Last Day. We pray as Christ proclaimed to Judas, “That thou doest, do quickly” (John 13:27b). God’s saints are ready for the finality of this Age and eagerly pray for it to be consummated. The sooner this happens the sooner God will send the Tribulation Period and resolve Satan’s plan, allowing finally for Christ’s kingdom to ultimately be established.

We are in the ankle part of Daniel’s image (Daniel 2); we may easily be witnessing the forming of its iron and clay feet (2:33). We are in the time of the cry of the Bridegroom of Matthew 25 where remnant believers are awakening and preparing their lamps. We are in the final supper of Revelation 3:20 where the Lord is fully readying His beloved bride. Like the Flood-days of Genesis 6, the remnant is getting smaller and smaller; their cry is ever increasing, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”

There were patriotic days of America when we stood for something good and noble. These days are now past; whatever patriotism remains is merely a memory, not a present reality. There is nothing keeping us here except our calling and ministries for Christ. Nevertheless, we must be ready to let all go when the trump sounds and we are snatched off this planet to meet Him in the air. What a place to meet Christ—the air! This is the domain of Satan, the Prince of the power of the Air. Our rapture will invade his precinct when Christ personally comes to take us to heaven. No power can stop that grand and momentous event (I Thessalonians 4:13-18).

We are at the end of the final Church Age that apostasy has globally permeated. God’s remnant is getting smaller while the Evangelical world is expanding into the winds of Postmodernism. May the Lord grant to us the ear and the eye that will be needed to overcome the final deception now sweeping across the institutional church, sealing it for Judgment. “The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them” (Proverbs 20:12).
