The Paradigm Shifts of the End Time

By Dr. H. T. Spence

In 1962 Thomas Kuhn coined the phrase “paradigm shift” in his influential work The Structure of Scientific Revolution. Kuhn mainly focused on paradigm shifts in science. He observed the shift from Newtonian physics (which holds time and space to be the same everywhere for all observers) to Einsteinian physics (which holds time and space to be relative to the observer’s frame of reference). A paradigm shift, according to Kuhn happens when the anomalies (deviations from what is standard, normal, or expected) and shortcomings of a current paradigm are repeatedly pointed out. Proponents of any new paradigm often boldly and assuredly promote it while garnering influential public positions. Their constant influence eventually presses new converts among those who are more likely to be open-minded to the change. Although Thomas Kuhn (a physicist) applied the term to science, his terminology now applies to any powerful shift from an established system (scientific, governmental, socioeconomic, etc.).

The Defining of a Paradigm

Before considering the paradigm shifts occurring throughout the world at this crucial hour, let us further define a paradigm shift. A paradigm is a standard, a perspective, a set of ideas, a pattern, a model, a template, or a prototype. A paradigm is a way of looking at something. The word paradigm is most often found in academic, scientific, and business contexts. The word addresses a person’s frame of reference; it is how he sees the world based on all the information that he has gathered and the beliefs that he has come to. For example, the scientific method itself is a paradigm through which science studies the world; the scientific method could also be used to study religion or social ideology. An example of contrasting paradigms sets a creationist’s paradigm against an evolutionist’s. When it comes to historic Christianity, God’s saints have always embraced the paradigm of the Scriptures.

If we take this word paradigm and add the word shift, a paradigm shift is defined as “an important change that happens when the usual way of thinking about or doing something is replaced by a new and different way.” In science, such a paradigm shift occurred in astronomy when scientific theory transitioned from a Ptolemaic perspective (the earth at the center of the universe) to a Copernican perspective (the sun at the center of the universe). In physics, a similar shift occurred from Newtonian physics to the quantum physics’ theory of relativity.

The Paradigm Shift of a Transformed Life in Christ

The birth of Jesus Christ into the world brought a powerful paradigm shift by which history is measured. For centuries, man has recorded time as either b.c. (before Christ) or a.d. (anno domini, “in the year of our Lord”). Only in recent decades, the secular and apostate religious world has turned to b.c.e. (before common era) and c.e. (common era). Interestingly, while deleting the name “Christ” from their terminology, they still measure it from His birth.

Likewise, the Christian measures his life from the great paradigm shift occurring when Jesus Christ came into his soul.

A paradigm speaks of how an individual views something. It is his worldview; it is his pattern for believing and his pattern for living. Note the great contrasts regarding the souls of Ephesians 2:1–3:

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

When the Holy Spirit comes, He brings godly sorrow that works repentance (Gr., meta-noia, a “change” in the perception of the mind). Yes, such godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation. This transformation is a paradigm shift in thinking and living; yea, it is a change in the whole perspective of life, of the world, and of God for one’s life. Old things pass away and all things become new.

Biblical Christianity is the greatest paradigm shift to ever be known in the history of the world as a result of the coming of the Son of God into the world in flesh. His death on the cross brought a new civilization of humanity. Hebrews 2 reveals the emergence of a new humanity through belief in this Son. Christianity swept across the Roman Empire, and its influence has gone literally across the world. Only a crisis New Birth and the coming of Jesus Christ into the life of a believer through the power of the Holy Spirit can cause this shift of thinking, of the heart, and of the living of life.

The coming of Christianity is the greatest paradigm shift ever known on this planet because it totally transformed man’s relationship with God, with the world, and even with one’s own self. When Christ revealed the greatest commandment to live by—that of loving God with all thy heart, soul, mind, and strength, and thy neighbor as thyself—He revealed the greatest paradigm change or shift to come into the heart and life of one who believes. The “religious” lifestyle of so many professing Christianity is in religious “activity,” seeking to be moral, pure, and devoted. And, if you are a goal-oriented person these are not bad things. But the heavenly paradigm shift only comes in the life-changing power of a conversion through the New Birth by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

All religions, except Christianity, form a paradigm shift where life becomes an “act” of becoming a progressively better person through the rules of that specific religion. Christianity, however, creates a totally different way to view life. Jesus Christ is the greatest power for a paradigm shift that has or ever will exist. True Christianity is literally a new creation.

The Hatred of True Christianity

We have witnessed and are witnessing paradigm shifts taking place in all areas of epistemology; present-day Christianity is no exception to observation. The prominent leaders in contemporary Christianity are men and women who hate historic Christianity; they despise the absolute principles of historic Christianity and are determined to radically change the present and the future within Christianity to conform it to the coming global paradigm shift.

The contemporary American theologian Leonard Sweet has famously made the following observation:

A sea change of transitions and transformations is birthing a whole new world and a whole new set of ways of making our way in the world. . . . It is time for a Postmodern Reformation . . . reinvent yourself in this 21st century or die. Some would rather die than change.

There is a growing cry for a new reformation in Christianity. This cry is not for a reformation like Martin Luther’s (1517); however, it seeks a far-reaching, yea, global change to come to Christianity. In fact, its proponents believe the world and the church will not survive without such a dramatic reformation. They cry that whatever it takes, Christianity must now “reinvent or die.”

More and more the contemporary church is rejecting the Book of Revelation, especially its presentation of the church prior to Christ’s return. There is an increasing resentment towards Bible-believing Christians even within Christianity. Some years ago, an article entitled “Lutheran Leader Calls for an Ecumenical Council to Address Growing Biblical Fundamentalism” began with the following:

The leader of the nation’s largest Lutheran denomination has called for a global Christian council to address an “identity crisis” on how churches interpret and understand the Bible. Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America called for Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican and Lutheran churches to come together to combat a fundamentalist-Millennialist Apocalypticist reading of Scripture.

These are not the only contemporary Protestants who reject the doctrine of the Second Coming. Rick Warren reveals his rejection of this doctrine by telling his followers that the details of Christ’s return are none of their business. In fact, throughout much of the world of Christendom, one will not see or read of unanimity among most church leaders regarding the biblical doctrine of Christ’s coming. What you will see is an abundance of discussion concerning establishing the kingdom now, and less and less belief and teaching of heaven or hell.

As a voice for the emerging church movement, Brian McLaren notes the following:

The church has been preoccupied with the question, “What happens to your soul after you die?” As if the reason for Jesus coming can be summed up in, “Jesus is trying to help get more souls into heaven, as opposed to hell, after they die.” I just think a fair reading of the Gospels blows that out of the water. I don’t think that the entire message and life of Jesus can be boiled down to that bottom line. . . . Sometimes I think that people who are thoroughly indoctrinated and habituated into this kind of system will not be able to break free from it without experiencing both psychological and social dislocation and disorientation.

McLaren further states,

An eschatology of abandonment, which is how I would characterize certain streams of the left-behind approach, has disastrous social consequences. Any project geared toward improving the world long term is seen as unfaithful, since we’re supposed to assume that the world is getting worse and worse.

Another paradigm shift in Christendom involves the interpretation of prophecies concerning the Jews. There is a growing belief called Replacement Theology that declares the church will take the place of the Jews in many of these prophecies.

A Critical Hour for Paradigm Shifts

We are now in the most critical hour of paradigm shifts due to the radical mutation of epistemology that is changing every aspect of human existence. Along with its effect in Christianity, these shifts are transforming the concept of government, the concept of economy, the concept of medicine and science, the concept of human reasoning itself.

Various paradigm shifts tend to come in the civilized world about every few decades. These shifts may come for several different reasons, such as scientific discoveries, social and industrial changes, new cultural concepts, and especially with ever-evolving technological changes.

Nonetheless, new ideological paradigms and the powers within these ideologies are abounding to the degree that they could create a radical, oppressive, dictatorial paradigm shift that could engulf even a nation overnight. Political leaders are rising who are determined to overthrow the past presuppositions of our nation, our past worldviews, with the intent to implement the new.

America had been in subtle, gradual paradigm shifts ever since World War I. But when Obama came in as president, we witnessed a powerful paradigm shift in the government as well as in the Democratic Party. He sought to radically transform America’s Constitution and structure of government. It was the hope of the Globalist New World Order movement that the shift would have been made by the end of his eight years as president. Although he did not immediately succeed, he further entrenched a “deep state” within government that has continued to run government from a global paradigm, irrespective of elected officials. This deep state found its radical globalist leader in Barack Obama.

But when Obama was not able to make the full shift, God’s providence brought on the scene a shocking, hopeful paradigm shift in the rise of a non-deep state businessman, Donald Trump. This non-political outsider came on the scene because of a rise of political conservatism in America. The globalists knew that if this new president brought about the return to the old paradigm, it would be devastating to the one-world hope. Donald Trump was a man of the old ideas, of the old economy and capitalism. Although married three times, he was a family man; he was a strong believer in patriotism and possessed a deep compassion for the common man. God permitted radical changes to arise as he endeavored to return to the old American paradigm. During his four years, the globalists feared the growing success of his attempt to reestablish the old paradigm. The globalists knew they must both destroy him and utterly destroy the old paradigm; both were an enemy to their desired globalist paradigm shift. The Elitists endeavored to do everything possible to destroy Mr. Trump, but God in a miraculous way kept this man and empowered his ventures to enable some recovery in several areas of life in America.

Yet, after four years the providence of God has now permitted a radical paradigm shift to bring America to a most aggressive antithetical shift with Joe Biden. Only God knows the shifts that will come from his administration.

The Years 2020 and 2021

Last year was truly a year to remember for its lockdowns, mandates, and draconian governors and politicians. But 2021 will witness a multitude of paradigm shifts that will cause us to weep in the light of our love for the paradigms of former days that were based on natural righteousness. We already have witnessed the paradigm shift from a pluralistic society that forced us into accommodating and tolerating all kinds of wicked lifestyles. Now we will witness the denunciation of the toleration of a pluralistic society. We will find ourselves being forced to accept only one political ideology, one educational ideology, one religious ideology, and one governmental ideology, and to denounce nationalism for the sake of globalism.

Our leaders have been given over to a delusion by God, and their delusion is their empowering passion; they no longer have a sound and rational mind. Additionally, the Devil inspires and empowers their delusion, for he too has been given over to his own unique delusion by God.

Simultaneous with the takeover of the oligarchy of Joe Biden’s administration in January 2021, the World Economic Forum met. Over 3,000 from 117 countries met in Davos, Switzerland, for their 50th annual meeting. This meeting was its most far reaching of all.

The World Economic Forum is an organization of the foremost political, business, and cultural leaders of society seeking to shape global, regional, and industry agendas. Their purpose is to make changes on a global level. In this year’s meeting, they pressed for a new social contract to keep the world from falling behind in economic development. They believed that the COVID-19 (so-called pandemic) was to bring about an opportunity to “reset” society, to “reshape” the global system, governments, businesses, and everything that controls humanity. They believed that COVID-19 should be used as a “wake-up call” to re-image, rebuild, redesign, and re-balance the world. They believed it was the hour in human history for globally harnessing technology and science to rebuild the future from a global perspective.

The World Economic Forum’s symbol for the future became the triangle. One side of the triangle was to represent “One versus many”; another side, “man versus nature”; and the third side, “the long term versus the short term.” These leaders believed that much pressure should now be placed upon the private sector for this global presupposition to work—the private sector becoming the capital; the private sector becoming an integral part of technology; and the private sector becoming fully involved with the public to forward its agenda.

Another paradigm shift that must come for this globalist new world order concerns the economy of the planet. The world’s economy must radically change in the next ten to twenty years. A part of this change calls for a full global involvement with “a greener package.” The belief is that we must not fall back into former paradigms for the days ahead, but we must collectively “come together in a unity for a global unification for our future.”

The recent events have made clear the global powers of technology companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and Google (YouTube). They now have both the capability and capacity to keep a detailed eye on society and to make sure there are no movements, organizations, conversations, websites, and tweets that will try to hinder what the global leadership is endeavoring to do “for the good of the people.” Their powers of control have become so overwhelming that they now are demanding these paradigm shifts; and such shifts must take place no matter what the cost is or what they must do to clear the way for these changes. They are now determined never to go back to “the status quo,” because it was the status quo, they believe, “that got us where we are.” Therefore, the past must be destroyed; and, out of its rubble “we must reset society, and we must reset the world.” The COVID-19 was simply used to destroy everything of our past to reset everything for the future in all countries.

The governments of the world will now call upon the private sector to have complete and absolute trust in the government to make all this work. But there must be submission of all of the private sector, one way or another! The governmental leaders tell us that this submission and trust in them (even in their fake science) will be the only way to bring about the perfect world in every aspect of life.

At the beginning of the pandemic, one percent of the population owned forty-four percent of the world’s wealth; this minority vastly increased its wealth by the end of 2020. At the same time, 150 million people fell back into extreme poverty.

More leaders are declaring that capitalism as we know it is dead; they claim the wealth gained by the wealthy during this emergency should now come to the aid of all. They are even now talking about “stakeholder capitalism” whereby money is made but never for profit. All are being called to yield their profits so that all may “profit” from each other. All economic and social forces must be united for the benefit of all. To achieve this utopianism, only the right leadership must be quickly placed into power. We are told that this must be done quickly because there is only a small window of opportunity that is closing fast; quickly, they say, we must all come together!

The New Social Contract

Coming from the World Economic Forum is the Davos Agenda pressing for a new “social contract.” This agenda declares that this pandemic has revealed many human inequalities throughout the world’s societies. As a result, a restructuring of all business and government systems is needed from the rubble that, ironically, government mandates created. Through government assistance to select corporations and businesses (while also getting rid of many smaller businesses), the government will now possess greater controls in private business.

The global financial reset will replace international trade and greatly change the current system of how America and the world exchange goods and services.

The Great Reset will support climactic events to resolve our global debt overload while at the same time encouraging slow economic growth, creating higher unemployment and social unrest. Our responsibility to the massive debt accrued will gravely overwhelm America and the world in the later 2020s. Many are expecting the US dollar to collapse by the end of 2021, with a double-dip recession and possible hyperinflation. But we have come to a point in America that debt does not matter anymore; the US can always print money to pay it off. Due to all of this, there must come from the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the European Central Bank digital currencies they control. They are now looking to a precursor of a new monetary system.

By the end of 2020, the government had $26.95 trillion in federal debt. We owe China $1.063 trillion and Japan, $1.260 trillion. The die has already been cast for the rest of the global economy. The plan involves dramatically increasing the power of government through expansive new social programs like the Green New Deal and using vast regulatory schemes and government programs to coerce corporations into supporting their left-wing causes.

The Great Reset has been justified by two things: (1) The COVID-19 pandemic (the short-term justification) and (2) the Climate crisis, caused (supposedly) by global warming (which is the long-term justification). This “reset” plan is to fundamentally transform all aspects of society’s economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions. Every nation will be forced to participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed.

Along with these massive forces of change is the call for a great reset of capitalism. Before the elections, Joe Biden was quiet about the “Great Reset.” Since he has become president, he has publicly declared his administration will fully support the Great Reset, and that it “will happen with greater speed and with greater intensity than a lot of people might imagine.” The Great Reset was initiated by putting Biden in office, and America will never be the same.

Conclusion

“Never let a good crisis go to waste” were the words uttered by Winston Churchill after World War II. These words were given as a hope to the English people. But these have now been used by sinister people in power. They have used the COVID-19 “pandemic” panic and fear to cause a world to bow to their whims and control. And now, we are being pacified by stimulus packages. Such packages have been used in the past for reviving the economy of a nation and putting more money into the business world. But these stimulus packages are mainly for making the transitions to different forms of energy, redirecting the change in businesses, and feeding the coffers for the pet programs of the socialist agenda. Globalism is now the paradigm shift, “the operation or planning of economic and foreign policy on a global basis” instead of creating policies purely for a single nation. It is interesting to note that to become a participant in the recent World Economic Forum, one had to pay from $67,000 to $700,000 per year depending upon one’s level of influence in the organization. We are told this is simply a forum, but powerful, influential people attend; and because of who they are, they are heard—Prince Charles, George Soros, Bill Gates, to name a few.

The world leaders believed that the hour had come for the need of a mega paradigm shift, and it is evident we are on the brink of experiencing such a shift. Will this be the massive spiritual deception of Matthew 24:24?

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great [mega] signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Since the Obama administration we have heard the constant mantra of “change.” So many hated Donald Trump because he is of the old-world thinking of Americanism and adamantly against the global changes that are being pressed on us today. The globalists despise national borders and national patriotism. Their celebrated borderless world and global patriotism will have massive effects upon public Christianity. Traditional Christian attitudes are fast changing about sexuality, biblical eschatology, the Romanist Church and other religions, and Israel’s role in God’s sovereign plan. Yes, even all of this is being redefined through the present, contemporary church.

As Christians, the Bible must be our singular paradigm; it must be our thought process, our form of logic, and our divinely inspired paradigm concerning all aspects of Christian living. We cannot change its message no matter what happens, no matter what changes will be forced upon our society. We must pray that God will not only empower us to stand against these paradigm shifts but also keep our beliefs and hearts from shifting from this Book.

May God enable us to not give in to the plethora of paradigm shifts of the End Time.
